Make a Wish Foundation

The Gord Bamford Charitable Foundation takes great pride in supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation Northern Alberta. When the Gord Bamford Charitable Foundation lost one of its most dedicated volunteers in Mr. Bob Muise after his diagnosis with terminal cancer, it honoured Bob’s request to continue to grant wishes through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The mission to grant children with life-threatening medical conditions parallels what both Foundations strive to achieve; a way to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Jace’s Story

Jace suffered a traumatic brain injury on August 26, 2015 in a horseback riding accident. He was in a coma and was not given much hope for survival. In the months since Jace’s accident, he has not only survived but has relearned to do everything including walking, talking, and eating. Some of his first sentences after not being able to speak for 32 days were “I will ride” and “I will  rope”. This has been his main goal throughout his recovery. He has a lot of practicing  and hard work to do as his left side, mainly his arm and hand, have been slow to recover. Before Jace’s accident he was a Provincial and Canadian champion. He was a fierce contender in the rodeo arena and strong competitor. To help his recovery and getting back to where he was pre-accident, he has made a wish for a ‘Tuf Calf’ and a calf roping saddle. Jace can’t wait to practice and get back into the rodeo arena as a strong competitor. It’s his focus and determination that has got Jace as far as he is in his recovery. Jace has been through a lot, having to relearn to do everything that we take for granted and still has a long road of recovery ahead of him. His dream is to be a competitive calf roper again and with these items he has wished for, it may be possible.

“I really enjoyed the gala on the 3rd! I use the tuf kaf every day! I’ve only roped it 3 or 4 times but I tie it every day. And I got the other box yesterday, and I’ve already used the go-pro! I love it. And with the gift cards I plan on buying a new saddle, and if we can’t find one cheap enough I will buy a whole lot of ropes ???? !!”

Makenzie’s Story

Makenzie is a sweet 6-year old who is diagnosed with a Brain Tumor. She absolutely loves swimming and Sea Turtles! It’s no surprise to her parents that she wished to swim with Sea Turtles!

For her wish trip, Makenzie and her family escaped to Cancun early in February. They stayed at Sandos Caracol Eco Resort and Spa. At this resort, Makenzie and her family spent countless hours playing in the Aqua Park and exploring the Eco-Experience where she saw baby turtles, macaws, peacocks and spider monkeys. Makenzie’s favorite memory from her wish trip is snorkeling with Sea Turtles in Akumal. She was able to see Giant Sea Turtles swimming beneath her and one almost swam straight towards her dad.

Makenzie’s mom said that the trip was an amazing time for their family to just spend time together and not worry about medical treatments and tests. They thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the pure joy on Makenzie’s face the first time she saw Sea Turtles in person. Makenzie and her family are grateful for Gord Bamford Foundation for making her wish come true!
