Gord Bamford Achieves 3 Million in Fundraising for his Charitable Foundation

Lacombe, Alberta – International country music star and Sony Music Canada recording artist Gord Bamford raised a total of $393,534 at the 10th Annual Gord Bamford Charity Golf Classic in Alberta, Canada on August 9th and 10th, 2017. Meeting their fundraising goal, Gord and his committee are celebrating breaking the 3 million dollar mark with his charity. Monies from The Gord Bamford Charitable Foundation are delivered to a variety of youth-centered charities across the country like Big Brothers and Big Sisters, MusicCounts, and Children’s Hospitals to name a few.

During the evening, Gord Bamford was also honoured with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters National Alumni Award for his Foundations contributions. Gord was enrolled in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program in the 6th grade and he credits his big brother for helping him stay on such a great path growing up.

Sponsored by ole Majorly Indie was a songwriters round that included Buddy Owens, Phillip White, Brice Long, and Brett Jones. On top of that, Dallas Smith and Gord himself entertained the 700+ people who attended the sold-out event. Well-known names from the sports world including Marty McSorley, Mark Recchi, Theo Fleury and Brad Gushue, just to name a few, were auctioned off to the golf teams who were given the opportunity to golf alongside their purchased celebrity the following day. Veterans of the event Kris Russel and Curtis Glencross found themselves in the celebrity auction once again.

Contributing to the fundraising total in the live auction was a trip to the Queen Charlotte Lodge which brought in $10,000, a live-painted Lewis Lavoie piece of art for $8,500, and the Calgary Flames Hockey Organization donated several experience packages that helped lift the overall fundraising total.

The Gala took place at the Sheraton Hotel in Red Deer, Alberta near the central-Alberta town where Bamford grew up and the Lacombe Golf and Country Club hosted the golfers for the 10th straight year. Gord expressed his thanks for the overwhelming support that’s been received over the past decade from sponsors, volunteers, and the music community alike. Alberta-based business JEDCO Energy Services stepped up once again as title sponsor and Central Alberta’s biggest and most well-known hockey family, the Sutter’s, showed up bearing generous donations and participated in a special hot-stove interview for VIP guests.

“These are not just sponsorships, they’re friendships,’ said Bamford during a teary-eyed, heartfelt thank-you speech about supporters past and present who’ve come out to the event. “The event raised $70,000 in it’s first year and was born out of the idea to hold a small golf tournament and concert in the back of a flatbed truck. “To see it grow to this size, and to know that we’re making a true difference to charities means the world to me.”

Gord Bamford Tournament Poised to Smash 3 Million in Funds Raised

Lacombe, Alberta – Alberta-based charity, The Gord Bamford Charitable Foundation, is poised to break the 3 million dollar mark in total funds raised via the Gord Bamford Charity Golf Classic. This year marks the 10th annual tournament and organizers have their eye on the goal of surpassing 3 million dollars.

“I’ve been lucky enough to be the recipient of many awards throughout my career, but the reward of being part of giving back is something that is very close to my heart,” said Gord.

With long time sponsors, some who have been around from day one, the foundation has flourished and been able to donate to charities across Canada from Children’s Hospitals to MusiCounts, and Bamford’s newest addition Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart program. Local charities in Alberta have also reaped the benefits of this successful event from The Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Lacombe and District to Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta.

Key sponsors of the event include JEDCO Energy Services and Waschuk Pipeline Construction Ltd.

Each year the tournament brings some of highest profile songwriters up from the Nashville music scene who have written songs for some of the biggest stars in country music. They participate in the concert by sharing stories and music from the world of country. Dallas Smith and, of course, Gord Bamford will put on a show for guests of the gala.

The event begins Wednesday, August 92017 at 5:30pm, at the Sheraton Hotel in Red Deer, Alberta where 700+ guests will enjoy an evening of country music, fun, and philanthropy prior to a day on the golf course at the Lacombe Golf and Country Club on Thursday, August 10, 2017.

The Gord Bamford Charitable Foundation Announces New Partnership

NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

Tuesday, August 1, 2017

Lacombe, Alberta – The Gord Bamford Charitable Foundation is proud to announce its new partnership with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities; a program that helps kids, who otherwise couldn’t afford to play, get in the game. Gord Bamford’s Foundation mission is to provide funds to youth supporting charities across Canada that involve music, education, health care, sports, and multi-use facilities, so Jumpstart is a natural fit.

“Sports were a very important part of my life growing up. It’s not until you’re an adult that you realize all of the great lessons you’ve learned though sport. I’d never want to think of any child missing out on that opportunity,” said Bamford.

This year, Jumpstart will receive a $10,000 cheque from the Gord Bamford Charitable Foundation. Jumpstart helps kids from families in financial need participate in organized sport and physical activity by helping cover the cost of registration, equipment and/or transportation. Whether it’s the opportunity to try a new sport or to continue with a favourite one, every kid deserves a sporting chance.

“For 11 years, Jumpstart has proudly helped more than 1.4 million kids get in the game,” said Landon French, President and CEO of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities. “We believe that sport does more than help kids stay active: it teaches life skills like courage, confidence and teamwork. On behalf of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, I am grateful for our partnership with the Gord Bamford Charitable Foundation so more kids can play the sport they love.”

Bamford’s event has generated over 2.7 million dollars for charity over its decade long history, and this year’s sold out event is shaping up to be the best yet. Over the past year, notable donations include $50,000 to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Lacombe & District, $10,000 to the Music Program at IWK Health Centre Foundation, and $10,000 to the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre to name a few.

As one of the most awarded artists in Canadian country music history, Bamford is nominated again this year for ‘Male Artist of The Year’ and the coveted CCMA’s ‘Fan’s Choice Award’. As one of five nominees, fans will be able to vote online or through social media for their favorite Canadian country artist of the year. The voting link https://fanvote.ccma.org/#/country-awards-2017 is open to the public now.

With only a few weeks to go until the 10th Annual Gord Bamford Charity Golf Classic, which takes place August 9th and 10th in Red Deer and Lacombe, Alberta, the committee is busy organizing the country stars that will be flying in to perform, the exciting live auction items, and the celebrities that will be auctioned off to the golf teams.
